City Announces Expansion of Free Public Wi-Fi Network

Write the article here.Residents and visitors will soon have access to faster, more reliable internet connectivity as city officials announced plans to expand the municipality's free public Wi-Fi network to several additional parks, community centers, and downtown gathering spaces.

The initiative, approved during Tuesday night's city council meeting, is part of a broader effort to improve digital accessibility while supporting local businesses and community events.

According to officials, the expansion will add more than 45 new wireless access points, increasing coverage by nearly 60 percent across public spaces. Installation is expected to begin next month and continue through the fall.

"We want residents to stay connected whether they're attending community events, working remotely from a park, or simply enjoying downtown," said City Manager Rebecca Lawson. "Reliable internet access has become an essential public service."

Local business owners have welcomed the announcement, noting that improved connectivity often encourages visitors to spend more time shopping and dining in the downtown district.

The project will also introduce enhanced network security, improved bandwidth management during large public events, and dedicated guest access for city-sponsored festivals.

Funding for the initiative comes through a combination of municipal technology grants and federal infrastructure funding, minimizing the financial impact on local taxpayers.

City officials expect the upgraded network to serve thousands of additional users each week once construction is complete.
