Local Community Raises Funds for New Park Improvements

After months of fundraising and volunteer efforts, residents of Oakridge announced they have successfully raised more than $85,000 to renovate the town's oldest public park. The project will include new playground equipment, upgraded walking paths, additional lighting, and expanded picnic areas.

Town officials say construction is expected to begin later this summer and should be completed before the end of the year, weather permitting.

"We've seen an incredible amount of community support," said Parks and Recreation Director Emily Carter. "Local businesses, schools, and residents all contributed to making this project possible."

The renovation will also feature environmentally friendly improvements, including drought-resistant landscaping, solar-powered lighting, and additional recycling stations throughout the park.

Several local organizations hosted charity events over the past three months, including 5K races, food festivals, and silent auctions. According to organizers, more than 1,200 residents participated in at least one fundraising event.

Parents expressed excitement over the planned upgrades, particularly the replacement of aging playground equipment.

"My kids have been coming here since they were toddlers," said local resident Michael Sanders. "It's great to see the town investing in a place that's been such an important part of the community."

Construction crews are expected to fence off portions of the park during the renovation, though officials say walking trails around the perimeter will remain open whenever possible.

A public ribbon-cutting ceremony is tentatively planned for late November following completion of the project.
