The Oakridge Farmers Market officially opened for the summer season Saturday morning, drawing a large crowd of residents eager to support local growers, artisans, and food vendors.
Held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Plaza, the market features fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, handmade crafts, prepared foods, and live entertainment. More than 60 vendors are participating in this year's market.
"It's more than just shopping. It's about building community and supporting our local economy," said market coordinator Lena Morales. "Every purchase helps a small business, local farmer, or independent creator."
Organizers have introduced several new family-friendly activities this season, including a children's gardening station, weekly cooking demonstrations, and an expanded seating area near the live music stage.
- Visitors can also participate in the Market Match program, which doubles the value of eligible food assistance benefits up to $20. Organizers said the program is intended to make fresh, locally produced food more accessible to families throughout the community.
- Local grower Daniel Harper said the opening weekend exceeded expectations.
"We had a steady line of customers throughout the morning," Harper said. "People are excited to know where their food comes from and meet the people who grow it."
Free parking is available at the city garage on weekends. Visitors who bike to the market can receive a coupon for a complimentary coffee from participating vendors.
